The Advertising Softball World Series – 2018 – Orlando

IMG_2706 (1)

It was another memorable week for Eh Team Vancouver at the 2018 Advertising Softball World Series.

This year’s edition, the 36th annual (Sept. 30 to Oct. 4) in Orlando, Fla., brought together teams from Dallas, New York, Chicago, Detroit, London and Vancouver for a week of softball, parties, great times and memories.

This year also marked the 20th anniversary of Eh Team Vancouver, who joins with Chicago Bad Apples as the two longest continuing franchises at the Ad World Series.

Eh Team Vancouver brought a veteran squad to Orlando this year and for the first time since it’s opening tournament appearance in 1999, no rookies were on the squad.

Eh Team opened up day one of the tournament with a 12-8 loss to Who Cares?!

They rebounded with wins over WTF Happened (16-5), Menace 2 Sobriety (10-8) and Shenanigans (28-6) to finish the day at 3-1, including a 3-0 start in division play.

Day two brought about more of the same – an opening game loss – followed by three wins.

Eh Team lost 11-5 to Motor City Chaos, beat Chicago Bad Apples ins a walk-off thriller 7-6, beat New York Cocktails – Brew Crew 12-1 and Thundercats from Jersey U.K. 18-2. Eh Team sat with an overall record of 6-2 and 6-1 in division.

On day three and the final day of competition, Eh Team once again dropped its first game of the day, then reeled off three-straight wins.

The opener was an 11-10 loss to New York Cocktails – Booze Crew, the eventual division one champions. Wins over Cocktails Brew Crew (19-6), Shenanigans (26-4) and WTF Happened (14-4) pushed Eh Team’s record to an impressive 9-3 overall and 9-1 in division.

The record resulted in a division championship and another city title for Eh Team, its first division title since 2015 and first city title since 2013.

The 2017 edition of the Andrew Pereman Memorial was a huge success with 16 teams battling it out in Squamish.
It was fitting that Team 95 and Drivers from Squamish ended up in the A-side final won 11-9 by Team 95.
Crows won the B-side beating Trolls in the final while Radicals bested Balls in the C-finals.

The 2017 softball season is here!
Eh Team Vancouver will be embarking on its 19th season with tournaments starting in late March culminating in the 35th annual Advertising Softball World Series in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Oct. 1 to 5!

2016 Advertising Softball World Series

Eh Team combined

The 2016 Advertising Softball World Series, held in Tucson, Arizona, marked a year of transition for Eh Team Vancouver with several of the core management team not attending for various reasons and a new management team taking over. The team also featured 10 rookies between Eh Team Drew and Eh Team Hayes.
With smaller rosters, both teams would be in tough competing against strong division opponents, but the squad put in a great performance.
Team Drew finished with an overall record of 5-3 and just missed out on a division championship playoff game with the eventual division champs Hazbenz from Dallas.
Team Hayes finished with an overall record of 3-5-1 with several one-run and close losses in day one and two. Overall, Eh Team Vancouver finished .500 at 8-8-1.
The tournament marked the first time that Eh Team Vancouver played against each other at the tournament with Drew winning 13-11 on day one of the tournament.
Other tournament highlights were the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort, a spectacular hotel setting and one of the best in the tournament’s history; a great opening night outdoor party, jersey contest and skills event; a cool mystery party night at an off-site cattle ranch venue and some great days of ball and drinks by the pool. We want talk about the rain though!

2015 Advertising Softball World Series (Hollywood Beach Florida)

IMG_1620

Eh Team Vancouver got back into the win column, picking up its 10th division championship (ninth co-ed) and first since 2013 as Team Hayes won the Division IV title at the 2015 Advertising Softball World Series in Hollywood Beach, Fla. Sept. 27 to Sept. 30.
Hayes started strong on day one of the tournament posting a 3-1 record.
Day two saw Hayes drop a pair of non-division games in the morning and rebound with a pair of wins in the afternoon to complete day two at 2-2.
Heading into day three, Hayes had a 5-3 record and was two games clear of its division opponents Menace 2 Sobriety from Dallas and Sons of Pitches from Ireland.
After a pair of wins, Hayes clinched the title, but went on to win and tie its last two games to finish the day 3-0-1 and 8-3-1 for the tournament.
Team Drew was placed in a tough Division II alongside Black Widow Harley Davidson and Toro from Calgary.
Missing several key players due to injury and other issues, the team was in tough from the start. Drew battled hard throughout the three days of competition losing several one and two run-contests finishing the tournament with a 2-10 record.
Despite the set back, Eh Team Vancouver had lots to celebrate at the wrap-up awards banquet where players Elisa Lok, Ma Havas and Loretta McLaughlin all received the Character of the Game awards joining Tom Shipman and Ian Jacques who both won the award in previous years.
Also at the annual team dinner, held on a free night during the tournament, three new members were inducted into the Igloo Hall of Fame (Team Hall of Fame): Paul and MA Havas and Loretta McLaughlin.
Teams at this year’s World Series were hosted by the brand new Margaritaville Resort, which officially opened to the public a week after the tournament.

The Moose – 2015 A-division runner-up

Trailing by as many as 10 runs at one point, Shameless battled back for a thrilling 18-17 win over The Moose in the A-event final under the lights at Nat Bailey Stadium.
Shameless scored three runs in their final at bat in a classic final at the Nat.
The Moose were a new team to this year’s Eh Team Field of Dreams Tournament and they didn’t look out of place as they knocked off last year’s A-event winners Relentless in the A-semi-final.
For Shameless it was there second title in three years and third straight trip to the A-event final.
The rain gods were not kind to the Eh Team (tournament hosts) and the 48-teams who battled it out in the six-day tournament.
The skies opened up on Saturday forcing three of the eight-scheduled games at Nat Bailey to shift to other fields.
On Sunday only three of the six division final games were played at Nat Bailey Stadium.
Other winners included:
A Consolation: Ballz Deep over Pandas
B Champs: Baxter Consulting Tigers over Tailgators
B Consolation: Angels over Villians
C Champs: Wreck Ball over Tax This
C Consolation: Highballers over Dragons
D Champs: Shockers over Beer Factor
D Consolation: Off Field over Bats Outta Hell
E Champs: Derelicts over Diamond Dancers
E Consolation: Hard Bats Soft Ballz over L & A Tigercats
F Champs: Nightcaps over Dream Catchers
F Consolation: Got the Runs over Mattingly’s Sideburns.
Eh Team Vancouver would like to thank the staff of the Vancouver Canadians for allowing us to play at Nat Bailey Stadium. Your partnership means a great deal to us. Also huge thanks to FireBall and Red Truck Beer for prize and beer sponsorship.
And finally, thanks to all the 48-teams for participating and battling through the tough weather conditions. We consider this the premier slo-pitch tournament in the Lower Mainland and it doesn’t happen without all the teams, sponsors and the Vancouver Canadians.
See you all in 2016!
